One man was shot and killed by police and another man was wounded in a wild altercation this morning in a home in the Camelot subdivision on the city's far north east side, 1200 WOAI news reports.
Police Sergeant Javier Salazar says it all began about 3:30 Monday morning when police got a bizarre phone call from a home in the 5200 block of Gwain.
"Officers got a call for a disturbance with a gun," Salazar said. "One of the men in the home said he was not being allowed to leave the house. He indicated that somebody was armed in the house. Dispatchers could hear voices in the background as well."
Salazar says when officers arrived, it got even dicier.
"When officers arrived on the scene, they were confronted by one suspect with a shotgun, although it is unknown at this time whether the suspect fired."
He says the officers 'responded to the threat with several rounds.'
"The suspect was shot several times and died at the scene."
He says no officers were hurt. But Salazar said one of the other men inside the home was wounded.
"Right now, we're characterizing it as a disturbance with a gun," Salazar said, adding that the confrontation happened 'inside and outside the home.'
No word on what prompted the confrontation.
