Ahead of their 50th anniversary shows in London and Newark, the Rolling Stones played a surprise warm up club show at Champs- Elysees in Paris last night.
Spanning a little more than an hour, the highly intimate set tackled some of the group’s all-time classics (“Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, “Tumbling Dice”), their hits (“Start Me Up”, “Shattered”), their new track (“Doom & Gloom”), and, despite a few surprises (“It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It)”, ”When the Whip Comes Down”, and a Muddy Waters cover of “Champagne & Reefer”). Not surprisingly, use of cell phones or recording devices were strictly prohibited; regardless : Watch a eight minutes worth of cell phone footage below.
The Stones will next perform at London’s O2 Arena on November 25th and 29th and at Newark’s Prudiental Center on December 13th and 15th. These dates mark the band’s first performances together since 2007 and highlight an anniversary campaign that already includes a "Best Of" compilation featuring 2 new songs in addition to a documentary set to premiere on HBO next month.
